Manor School Bus Parking Proposal

Closed 2 Apr 2021

Opened 11 Mar 2021

Manor School, Harmony site has recently opened its doors in February 2021. They provide a specialist teaching environment for pupils with a range of special educational needs for children as young as four.

The school community has contacted the Council to provide a safe space for their mini buses to stop during school ‘drop off and pick up’ times.

With the safety and wellbeing of all pupils from both neighbouring schools (Manor School, Harmony Site and Mitchell Brook Primary School), the council is proposing to change some of the parking arrangements on Bridge Road to facilitate a safe space for school mini buses to stop.

The aim of the scheme is to:

  • Provide a safe space for the pupils of Manor School to assemble on to the school mini buses during drop off and pick up times;
  • Prevent obstructive and dangerous parking near the school gates, by allowing the school buses to have their own dedicated parking places.

Why we are consulting

The proposal is to convert the existing footway parking near the junction of Gresham Road on Bridge Road to Carriageway Parking. In addition, this space will be converted to a School Bus Parking Place operating Mondays to Fridays from 8:30am to 10:00am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm. The proposal will widen the footway, by moving the parking arrangements to the carriageway, allowing all children, particularly ones with disabilities to safety social distance when getting in and out of the school mini buses.

The proposal also includes the conversation of current parking arrangements on the eastern side of the road (opposite side) from carriageway parking to footway parking, with an additional small section of proposed ‘At any time’ waiting restrictions, to facilitate the changes.   This arrangement will allow traffic to flow on the carriageway without obstruction.

This will allow a safe space for the school mini buses to stop and export the pupils to the Harmony site in a safe space away from the busy traffic congestion during the morning and afternoon rush. The proposal will also prevent potential obstructive parking near the school gates and improve road safety for all road users.
