Overview

Improving road safety on the borough’s road network forms a major part of the Council’s policy and is in line with the Mayor for London’s strategy and commitment for improving road safety across London. Each year Council identify roads and locations in Brent with the highest number of Personal Injury Accidents (PIAs) and look at introducing road safety measures to reduce the number of collisions, improve pedestrian movement and safety.

Kingsbury Road (East of Church Lane to the Edgware Road) has been identified as an area with high number of accidents. There has been 10 collision accidents in the last 3 years, resulting in 3 personal injuries classified as slight, including a pedestrian. Therefore, funding has been allocated by the Council to undertake study and introduce measures to improve road safety.

Bus priority funding has also been allocated to provide a new bus lane to improve local bus journey times on the approach to Edgware Road.

Why We Are Consulting

As part of this scheme, we are proposing a peak-time bus lane from Derwent Avenue to the junction of Edgware Road. This will operate from 7am – 10am and 4pm – 7pm Monday to Friday.

The current waiting and loading restrictions of 8am – 9:30am and 4:30pm – 6:30pm Monday to Friday are proposed to be extended to match the bus lane hours of operation of, 7am – 10am and 4pm – 7pm Monday to Friday. Therefore, the bus lane will be clear during its hours of operation and the hours will be in keeping with all other peak-time bus lanes on TfL bus routes.
