Overview

The proposed scheme aims to support the Roads Modernisation Plan to maintain bus reliability on routes likely to be impacted by traffic.

It will help improve public transport in the area and reduce the impact from expected increases in traffic levels and congestion on bus journey times and reliability by easing of movements through the junction.

It will also help to improve the junction’s road alignment and deliver wider benefits such as road safety, cycling and improvements to the urban realm.

Why we are consulting

The proposed changes are shown in the attached drawing and are described in detail below: -

  • Relocating the central traffic islands, signals and CCTV backwards towards the south of Church Road by approximately 1.5 metres to accommodate two traffic lanes on the westbound traffic movements of the High Road;
  • Proposed red blister tactile paving on all the crossings of the junction and renewing the existing central island on the east of the junction on High Road;
  • Realigning the southwest and southeast kerbs of Church Road junction to align with the new crossing of the relocated central islands in Church Road;
  • Repaving of the footway and resurfacing of the carriageway for the extent of the scheme;
  • Improvement to the existing cycle track on the southwest footway of High Road;
  • Proposed and refreshing of the existing road markings.
