Harlesden Town Centre

Closed 11 Jan 2021

Opened 15 Dec 2020

Overview

In 2015, Brent Council completed a major public realm improvement scheme in Harlesden Town Centre. The scheme was well received by the local community and generally considered successful in delivering a much-improved pedestrian environment. However, since the implementation, the Council has received a number of requests from local residents and businesses asking for modifications and raising concerns about road safety. The scheme has therefore been reviewed and a number of improvements are proposed.

Why we are consulting

The proposed changes are shown on the attached drawing and are outlined as follows: -

  1. High Street- A new ‘yellow box’ road marking will be provided at Wendover Road junction to reduce obstructions from vehicles queuing back through this junction. New ‘keep clear’ road marking will be provided at Avenue Road Junction to reduce obstructions for vehicles turning out of Avenue Road. The location of Bus stop cage and loading bay outside of Iceland will be swapped to improve bus movement.
  2. Manor Park Road and Tavistock Road- New trees and bollards will be provided to protect the footway on Tavistock Road. Amendments will also be made to the zigzag road markings on Manor Park Road to improve visibility of Zebra crossing on Tavistock Road.
  3. Manor Park Road/Crownhill Road Junction – The existing parking spaces outside Nos. 51-55 Manor Park Road will be made inset parking spaces (in a lay-by). A low hedge will also be provided in the buildout to deter vehicles from overrunning the kerb at this junction.
  4. Craven Park Road and High Street– The location of the loading and disabled parking bays outside Nos.1-13 High Street will be swapped to improve visibility of the Zebra crossing on Crownhill Road. The loading bays on Craven Park Road will be widened to deter vehicles overrunning the footway and one pay and display parking space near No. 70 Craven Park Road will be converted to a disabled person’s parking space. A new motorcycle parking bay and new trees will also be provided.
  5. The Croft – A double yellow line to be provided along the northeastern side of The Croft.

High Street/Park Parade/Manor Park Road Junction – A right turning pocket will be provided for vehicles turning right from Manor Park Road into High Street.
