Chevening Road Proposed Safety Scheme

Closes 8 Feb 2021

Opened 14 Jan 2021

Overview

The junction of Chevening Road, Brondesbury Park and Salusbury Road attracts many pedestrian including children who attend Hopscotch Nursery, Islamia Primary School and Al Sadiq & Al Zahra School. The council has received a number of complaints from the local community regarding obstructive parking during school “drop off” and “pick up” times.

In collaboration with the ward councillors and Islamia Primary School (within Winkworth Hall Site), further mitigation measures have been identified to improve the road safety at this junction for all road users.

The aim of the scheme is to:

  • Prevent obstructive and dangerous parking
  • Improve visibility and traffic flow
  • Improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, particularly the vulnerable road users
  • Enable the Council to take effective enforcement action  including the use of CCTV camera cars where vehicles stop to set down passengers or park at the junction

Why we are consulting

The proposal is to introduce a School Keep Clear marking at the junctions of Chevening Road, Brondesbury Park and Salusbury Road. Operational Monday to Friday 8am-9:30am and 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

School Keep Clear markings are shown as yellow zigzags outside of schools. This marking prohibits vehicles to park or even stop to set down passengers whilst the restrictions are in force.

The markings will provide clear vehicle sight lines around the entrance of Hopscotch Nursery, Islamia Primary School and Al Sadiq and Al Zahra School, improving road safety for all road users.
